How To Softencotton Hanky

The departmental archives of Ille-et-Vilaine

few words about my brief visit to Departmental Archives of Ille-et-Vilaine yesterday relocated two years now in a beautiful and impressive building by architect Vitart Ibos. To be brief (you can find complete information on these pages the website of AD), I was seduced by the choice of architect (especially the changing rooms and seats in the conference room) and ovens working with the character of the building highlighted by its users. This seems to meet all the criteria described by the ideal building manuals (tours differentiated store standards, large reading room, loading dock very broad, large rooms, sorting, and can even add an underground car park for staff). The bias seems quite close to that adopted for Pierrefitte (if I understood the project) with a block of shops behind and in front of the premises intended for public reception and staff offices connected by corridors to the stores. I also noted the presence of several workshops and photo restoration (with staff permanently, is rare enough to be highlighted here!). Three points still leave me doubtful: the importance of glass surfaces that cover almost throughout the building and especially the fronts of shops facing south and the roof of the reading room, the choice of an air conditioning system cost and complexity of known defects and now the location of this center on the outskirts of Rennes, certainly close to the University of Rennes 2, but still not easily accessible. These points aside, this is a great achievement that the public can visit as guided tours are regularly organized ( information here ).
