In Canada (III) - The top DOCAM

I had the opportunity to attend the weekend summit last DOCAM in Montreal and the results were presented to me seemed interesting enough for me to make echo here.

DOCAM is a research group sponsored by the Daniel Langlois Foundation has for five years, brought together researchers, curators, students, art historians, etc.. around the theme of conservation of works of art media as they say here, that is to say works of art including new media and technology (video, sound, software, etc.).. The basic finding was indeed that museums do little or no concern that these collections are very specific and, often, when they wanted to, they were clueless about these things they did not master all aspects. Case studies and drawing tools available to museums have been a goal of DOCAM, all underpinned by a genuine debate on issues related to it (obsolescence of hardware and software, data retention, integrity and authenticity of works ...), very close to our concern archivists, finally!
Ultimately, the work is considerable conservation of these works in their cataloging and presenting them in museum collections, many fields of reflection have been covered, still resting on concrete case studies . This work is now synthesized on this website, where there are many interesting tools, even for us archivists: good practice guidance, advice cataloging, sample records of works sheets of new technologies, interactive timeline, etc..

If you have a few minutes, throw a glance, I think there are things to be gleaned! In addition, the symposium has been fully recorded, it should soon be available on line .
