List of exhibitions, museums, monuments and historic sites, archives visited in 2009

Like last year and with some delay, here is the list of exhibitions, museums, historic buildings and in addition this year, archives, visited in 2009. The list is, I believe, exhaustive as it was Held at the As ...

  • Teotihuacan, city of gods (Musée du Quai Branly, Paris, November 2009)
  • Tiffany (Musée du Luxembourg, Paris, November 2009)
Many exhibitions visited this year - some part of the INP, but most not - success stories and discoveries as well ... The five favorite shows I in 2009 (sorry, I could not limit myself to three as last year, the choice is extremely difficult): Emil Nolde (discovery-shock from an artist that I did not know at all), the first altar (we never change that you want) Alphons Mucha (exposure to both sumptuous and successful), Soulages (as of emotion), the legend of King Arthur (I really liked the staging and the effort made to convey an impressive amount of information in a digestible, however).

The three biggest misfires (and here I limit myself to 3): The art of empty-Picasso Cezanne, Teotihuacan (but I think that having visited the site a few weeks ago real me does not have an incentive to indulgence).

Blow of heart for the Fabre museum I had seen before its renovation, and I rediscovered this summer. Stroke heart as for the castle of the Dukes of Brittany, despite all the controversy over its renovation, I found that this was a great success.
NB: Missing Italian museums I visited in Umbria, then this book has remained in France, update upon my return ...

Dr. Aravind Hair Transplant

An happiness never comes alone

I finally updated my page service Netvibes ! No more broken links, RSS us ... I had the pleasure of adding new blogs to French speaking archivists to this list as Archivists and networks (which design!) Or archival Chronicles. We're not yet at the level of librarians and their nectar but ... things are moving! On the other hand, it is clear that websites start page and now include RSS tool: makeover for the AAF and FIP for Culture.fr (including my little finger told me that he too will soon have its SSR), gallery of art, even the Ministry tried it!

As I have no time to extend my day, I concentrated on the French network of archivists and the French cultural issues, more technical aspects (legal, technological) it lacks and I am well aware (

Feel free to report anything you find great and I forgot in the comments of the blog or page.

Happy reading!

Is Plan B Painful 2010?

In Canada (I) - The Gatineau Preservation Centre

Y having made a short visit this afternoon, I can excuse myself to touch you two words of the LAC Preservation Centre (Library and Archives Canada), the principal place of conservation of the Canadian national archives. Just as the functions of an archivist and curator (who manage both the "authority" issues of preventive conservation and restoration) are very distinct here 1, 2 buildings LAC reflect this dichotomy: Archivists therefore work here (we are in the suburbs of Ottawa, Gatineau, approx. 20 km from downtown)

and documents are kept here (100 m from the previous building, we see the first photo):

As readers (called "clients"), they consult the documents brought by truck at 395 Wellington Street in downtown Ottawa.

Here I will discuss the preservation center (a concept which is tantamount to our preventive conservation) a splendid dome of glass and steel covering a huge block of concrete in which documents are stored. This building was opened in 1998 and what struck me first is its modernity almost 12 years and not a wrinkle ...

Great Fieret LAC (and rightly), the building was designed in close collaboration with archivists, and this down to the smallest detail. It was the impression of approaching the archive building ideal fully externalized lines (you can see the pipes out to the left of the building if you look closely at my bad photo), walls and floors completely sealed and fireproof, ventilation hatches ingenious, slightly sloping floors with evacuation in the event of water damage, stores (storage vaults they say here) at different temperatures and humidity levels for different types of Documents with sas heating / cooling progressive, metal shelving and fully dimensioned specially according to the documents (finished large format and plans beyond warped), etc.. etc.. The list is too long but I have the impression that nothing has been left to chance.

But that's not all! Above the concrete cube, a huge "village preservation": a huge platform for laboratories of all kinds to be the envy of any restoration workshop. I was impressed by the space and the amount of material found there (anything goes from the workshop of restoration and gilding of leather to the workshop for converting movies to digital format, from by microfilming, a lot of photo labs and even a mini-cinema with a score of places!): the high-end ...

only snag: the building is (already) full and, despite the reserve land available here, as elsewhere, money and political will is lacking to repeat this feat that combines (I think) archival architectural aesthetics and efficiency.

What Else Can I Do Besides Take Emer

page ad ...

As I participated (and there's even my name in it!), I would relay the announcement of the release of the book sources of history France in Russia: a guide to research in the State Archives of the Russian Federation in Moscow ( XVI e-XX e century) in the collection studies and meetings of the School of charters.

The research was conducted during an internship made me take the full brunt of the intimate connection between records and democracy but also allowed me to (re) discover a country oh so fabulous ... What great memories!

How To Sip Womens Nipl

LAC / LAC

So here I am in training at Library and Archives Canada (LAC her pet name), Division of archiving digital documents, for eight weeks, the opportunity to discover a new horizon archival, a organization and different methods, as an opportunity to reconnect with the thread of this blog, frayed by weeks of brainwashing on the bubble wrap and the paint layer. In short, expect a new impetus, strengthened by the north wind!
I also try to speak of research I am conducting as part of the course on the timing of the introduction of new technologies in the administration, their impact on work patterns and, ultimately, their consequences for archiving. If you have any leads, suggestions, essential references, comments are yours!
